September

Sun Sep 2, 2007, 11:14 AM
Hello, and welcome to LAGAMISOC (ladies and guys/girls and men in support of chivalry).

I would like to personally apologize for the long stretch between updates. We simply haven't had any new art to post, but I assume everyone has been busy with summer activities and school starting.

:rose: The Monthly Media for September is: This poem, written by Sir Master Brand deux Leons (aka McLiam)
Knight, Bard, Poet & Scholar. Consider, Question and Conclude as you will.

Warrior's Heart

"What keep am I to hold?"

"What doorway can I bar"

"What fill to keep out cold?" {The answers are not far.}

"What song am I to sing?"

"What promise can I swear?"

"What poem to parchment bring?" {The answers come now near.}

"What foe am I to fight?"

"What battle can I win?"

"What quest is mine by right?" {The answers here begin... }

A sword you do command.

Your heart shall be your hand.

We encourage all members to watch/read/be inspired by this chivalrous media! We look forward to viewing all the beautiful deviations that will come from it.

:rose: September's winner of the Wall of Chivalry is: Oprah.
A woman who pushed her way through great personal struggles and now gives back to the world in its entirity.

:rose: September's winner(?) of the Wall of Chivalrous Failure is: Mr. Mole, from Thumbelina. A creature who cares for nothing but filling his own needs.

I'm pretty sure I got this list somewhere else, but I haven't found out where. Still, some reference is better than none, so thanks to Jeremy Treanor for giving me this one.

Note of the list of Chivalry and its rules: (I am not bashing it, nor trying to argue, furthest from it, in fact ^^)

Is it really possible to do many of those things in this day and age and still uphold the ideals, though somewhat contorted they are, of a democracy? Granted, there is no such thing as a true democracy, that in itself is inachievable. But we do take into consideration the rules of chivalry. While it is rather difficult to commit acts noticeable on the Internet, there are many members who I see in "real life" that uphold as many of the rules of Chivalry as possible in this society...specifically those in regards to the Crown and the King.

To answer your question, you must see the latest Antonio Banderas movie, "Take the Lead"! In it you have a dance instructor that teaches ballroom dancing to inner-city, troubled high school rapper-styled kids. The teacher holds doors open for women, stands in the presence of women, holds chairs while women sit down, uses manners and courtesy at all times, defends the weak, etc. With today's morales, he seems entirely out of place with the trash-talking, rude, me-fiirst/screw you bunch of kids and adults he has to deal with. However, he demonstrates that his manners, chivalry, and code of ethics comes from a self-understood base of power that is unshakeable. I attend a lot of Rennaisance Fares and Medieval Festivals. Thse mores are not only practiced, but expected, and frowned upon if not done so. These habits carry over into our real life and we do not feel subserviant to anyone for being nice to them.

True. But we do have to take into consideration that that is a movie, and the sad truth is that there aren't that many people in this world, though there really should be, who are chivalrous.
And there are a lot of women out there that, since achieving more equal rights, don't view a lot of the chivalrous acts as respect, but as a means of demeaning them.
:iconswordofscotland:
You make a good point in that there are groups and a class of people who take offense to one being kind, courteous, and chivalrous. I agree, also, that there are a lot of people who cower and secumb to the stigmatism of the lables of these groups. However, a truly chivalrous person will stand courageous and stick to his/her convictions in the face of unpopular adversity. You will find for every one person who stands up to the face of adversity that there are ten in the shadows who want to come out and do the same. "Fortune favors the bold!"-Quote (unknown)
